Hutch Make- Over

I know... she did another hutch make- over?! Does she have a problem? should we call someone to help her? Is her house wall to wall hutches?!
All good questions people. But mind your own beeswax... you can still walk safely through the house... for now...
And besides, this one was destiny! We locked eyes ~~on Craigslist~~ and I knew she was to be mine! I had seen an inspiration picture on Pinterest quite awhile ago that I could not get out of my mind- just love at first site- and it wasn't anything too fancy- I just love the dark gray with the bright white contrast.

It is also one of my inspirations for a new counter top and kitchen update! Loving all the grays and whites in kitchens now!
This one became one of those... This will be easy, it won't take too long projects that took FOREVA and may have blocked my front door for a week. In my defense though, it was 100 degrees outside in September and I couldn't paint outside or in the garage! Stop looking at me like that!
I started by priming her with Zinsser- coverage was just fine but there was a mysterious red spot that kept bleeding through on the top shelf.

grrr....

After multiple coats and trying a shellac primer as well, I was ready to call in a paranormal expert but decided to ask y'all on facebook first. (Like Windgate Lane on Facebook if you haven't so you can see sneak peaks as I work) Of course one of my brilliant friends new the answer- apparently furniture in the 50's had some sort of stain that just keeps on coming through but supposedly the Shellac primer should take care of it. Unfortunately for me, that was not the case. But in a strange turn of events when I had decided it would just be the spot for a large vase, I painted my Benjamin More, Decorators White, over it and it was never heard from again!

So the inside needed about 3 coats of the Decorators white (yes, even after three coats of primer because it hated me) and then the outside I did Sherwin Williams, Black Fox. I can't tell you how much I love the Black Fox- it is a gorgeous dark gray and I'm afraid the pictures don't do it justice! And a quick gold spray paint over some old knobs spruced them up too..

Ok, I went on and on enough- here she is- all styled and pretty for fall- I will tell you more about our new/old table soon!
